The existing structure of the dome was reinforced and structural repairs completed prior to the scaffolding being installed. The multiple layers of original paints were removed from the copper dome and original statues. The original broken glass panes were removed and replaced with custom made replacement glass. The damaged copper panels were removed and replaced. The existing sealants were removed and replaced. A new fully reinforced SIKA waterproofing systems was installed over the copper panels and the glass panels. The waterproofing system included eights coats of material.
